Hamilton Architects was pleased to welcome architecture students and graduates at various stages of their careers to a Portfolio Review & Networking Evening held at our Belfast studio on Thursday 13th of August 2026.
The event, organised by our team members Ananya Jain and Lois Chan, brought together students ranging from Part 1 undergraduates to recent graduates and those seeking to enter the profession. Following an introduction to the practice, participants met with members of our team for portfolio and CV review sessions, receiving constructive feedback and career advice from experienced professionals.
Associate Jonathan Greig opened the evening by reflecting on career development within the architectural profession, encouraging students to approach their careers with curiosity, self-reflection and a willingness to test new opportunities and learn from experience.
We were also delighted to welcome Rachael Hart, BIM Manager at McAvoy and Regional Lead for Women in BIM, as guest speaker. Rachael shared insights into the diverse career pathways available within the built environment and highlighted the importance of collaboration, inclusion and mentorship in supporting professional growth.
The evening concluded with an informal networking session, allowing students and reviewers to continue conversations and make new professional connections.
Reflecting on her own experience of entering the profession, Lois shared why events such as this can be valuable for students and graduates:
“Having attended a similar portfolio review event when I first graduated, I know how valuable it can be to receive honest feedback and to understand what the industry is looking for when preparing to enter practice. I remember having all those uncertainties, so it was really rewarding to offer a little bit of support to students and graduates. My one piece of advice: be confident and don’t give up!”
The evening provided participants with an opportunity to gain fresh perspectives on their portfolios and future careers, while also encouraging greater connection between education and practice.
Ananya reflected on the wider ambition behind the event, saying: “For me, this event is about opening the conversation between academia and practice and making architecture more accessible. Hopefully, this is just the beginning of creating a more open and supportive industry where everyone feels they have a place.”
