Held in partnership with the Department of Education, Hamilton Architects were delighted to be involved in the inaugural Learning Environments Northern Ireland Conference which took place on the 5th of November at Titanic Belfast.
The one-day event focused on the theme ‘Creating Modern, Inclusive Learning Environments for Every Child and Young Person’, and investigated the key challenges faced by estates and facilities professionals in Northern Ireland.Topics included early years, special educational needs, sports provision, modern methods of construction, the green agenda and outdoor learning.
In the Bridge Suite, Partner at Hamilton Architects, Graeme Ogle, presented on ‘Creating Adaptive Learning Environments in Primary Schools’. During his presentation, Graeme provided an overview of the Department of Education Northern Ireland (DENI) Handbook and delved into Hamilton Architects case studies, including the ongoing project at Gaelscoil Aodha Rua in Dungannon and Gaelscoil na gCrann in Omagh, which had been completed in 2020.
It is envisioned that the Learning Environments NI Conference will take place every two years and serve as the meeting place for key influencers, decision-makers and all those involved in creating modern, inclusive and sustainable learning environments.
The success of the inaugural conference has provided valuable insight into the shared challenges and aspirations across the education sector. Events like this strengthen our commitment to designing learning environments that are not only functional and sustainable but truly reflective of the needs of pupils, teachers and communities.
