Planners have approved our design for a new 7-classroom, two-storey replacement for St Malachy’s Primary School, Armagh.
Accommodations include a multi-purpose hall with an independent entrance for extra-curricular events, library, plant room featuring a polycarbonate lantern, and glass curtain walling to a brick kitchen to the rear.
A split-level design maximises views of the surrounding town and countryside as well as showcasing Armagh limestone at the entrance as a distinguishing feature of local heritage.
The single storey element will be of masonry construction with an extensive green roof, while a brick and render façade to the upper ground floor will feature playful tones of coloured render.
The new school, which incorporates land acquired from the Northern Ireland Housing Executive and Gaelic Athletic Association, will be accessed via Chapel Lane on the southern boundary of the site.
The main entrance will be on the east side of the new school, giving a clear line of sight through the car park to drop-off areas. The classrooms will lie along the site boundary and utilise sloping play areas to the west.
