Three Hamilton Architects school projects benefit from funding

Hamilton Architects will be advancing three important education projects in the near future, thanks to £80m of new capital funding secured by Education Minister Paul Girvan.

The projects are Glenwood Primary School on the Shankill Road, Belfast; Edendork Primary School, Co Tyrone; and Mary Queen of Peace Primary School, Ballymena.

Grade B1 listed Glenwood PS will benefit from a modern new 21 classroom educational facility with two learning support centres, as well as a replacement building for the existing 1960s extension.

A new school for the village of Edendork will provide 11 classrooms, a multi-purpose dining and sports hall, flexible teaching and staff rooms, resource areas and changing/toilet facilities.

Two local primary schools will be amalgamated in a newbuild, 9 classroom facility for Mary Queen of Peace PS on a greenfield site at Glenravel. The project includes a multi-purpose hall, full production kitchen, staff facilities and resource area.

The opening capital budget for education in 2024-25 is £254m, which will support 10 major school build projects that are currently in contract or on site.

Minister Girvan said the additional funding would see a total of 15 schools benefiting from new state of the art facilities for young people from Belfast to Ballymena to Enniskillen and beyond.

He added: “I also plan over coming weeks to launch a series of targeted smaller scale investment programmes to support and enhance the delivery of the curriculum in our schools.

“Potential schemes in this area will include specialist curriculum accommodation at post-primary, outdoor play and PE in the primary phase, and curriculum resources and equipment more widely.

“It is my priority to ensure the educational experiences of as many children and young people as possible across Northern Ireland are impacted positively by capital investment.”
