Last month, Education Minister Paul Givan welcomed the beginning of construction works at the official sod-cutting ceremony for Edendork Primary School. Hamilton Architects are leading the design team, working alongside Woodvale Construction, who have been appointed as the contractor for the delivery of the new school in County Tyrone.

The new single-storey school has been designed to provide 11 classrooms, a multi-purpose dining and sports hall, flexible teaching spaces, staff accommodation and specialist resource areas, all delivered to high environmental and sustainability standards.

Drawing inspiration from the rural context of the site, the design arranges classrooms around a central courtyard, reflecting the form of traditional local farmyards. A contemporary pitched roof over the double-height hall creates a distinctive landmark, referencing the site’s former parochial hall.

Designed to support both education and community use, the school will provide a flexible and welcoming environment for future generations.

Speaking at the sod cutting event, Education Minister Paul Givan said:

“Schools are at the heart of our communities, and it is vital that they provide inspiring environments for teaching and learning. This development will do exactly that, ensuring Edendork can deliver excellent education for generations to come.”

Construction began at the end of April, and we look forward to seeing the project take shape over the coming months, with completion anticipated by autumn 2027.
