Construction is now underway on the major redevelopment of Glenwood Primary School, marked by a sod-cutting ceremony attended by Education Minister Paul Givan alongside representatives from the school, design team and wider project partners.
Originally designed in 1928 by renowned school architect R.S. Wilshere, the Grade B1 listed building is set to undergo an extensive refurbishment, alongside the construction of a new block containing ten classrooms, a library and dining facilities.
A key aspect of the design has been balancing contemporary educational requirements with the preservation of the building’s historic character. The sod-cutting ceremony marks a significant milestone in the delivery of the revitalised school. Speaking at the event, Minister Givan described the development as a state-of-the-art facility that “will not only help pupils grow, but thrive, ensuring they are best placed to reach their full potential.”
Principal Wesley Wright said:
“This is a significant day for Glenwood Primary School. This project will benefit the whole school community by providing access to improved facilities that will further enhance the excellent provision delivered by our staff. It is the result of years of hard work, planning and teamwork, and I pay tribute to everyone involved. Our new school is an investment in the future of our pupils and our community.”
Construction began in February 2026, with completion anticipated in February 2028.
