Staff and students at Holy Trinity College, Cookstown, have moved into a stunning new multi-million pound school building, designed by Hamilton Architects.

The practice led a multi-disciplinary team to deliver this state-of-the-art, c16,000m2, facility for 1,300 pupils on the existing school site at Chapel Road in the town.

The new school is situated on the existing shale pitch at the rear of the old school building and covers 13 acres. Construction is being carried out in two phases. Phase 1 delivered the new school and games pitch, while Phase 2 will see the demolition of the old school and completion of siteworks in summer 2026.

In regard to design, the layout of the new three-storey school is arranged around a central courtyard, with two spacious atria located within the north and south wings to serve as the main entrance and orientation points for pupils and staff.

Access to the building is via the front atrium, which is overlooked by the administration offices to create a clearly defined and supervised space.

A brickwork plinth and undulating pitched roof, along with large expanses of glazing on the multi-purpose hall and dining hall, harmonise the new building with the gentle rolling hills of the Sperrins.

Single storey Sports and Technology annexes complemented by a synthetic 3G games pitch. Car parking and pedestrian access, along with new bus, car and taxi drop-offs, will provide access at the front of the site.
