Paul was recognised for an outstanding career in architectural design, conservation and practice spanning over 45 years. He joined Hamilton Architects in 1978, working under the late founder, Alan Hamilton, with a small team at Hawarden House in east Belfast.
After becoming a Partner in 1990, he was joined by architect Mark Haslett and in 2011 they moved the practice to Hamilton House, bespoke new offices designed by Paul at Joy Street in Belfast’s Linen Quarter.
The practice marked its 50th anniversary in 2022 and in those five decades has been responsible for many significant projects in the Education, Health, Commercial and Community sectors.
In 2024, after nearly 40 years’ service as a Partner, Paul stepped down to become a Consultant to the practice, which still benefits from his expertise and vast experience in the profession.
Mark Haslett, Partner, Hamilton Architects, said: “I first met Paul when I joined the practice as a year-out student in 1985. In the words of Alan Hamilton at that time, who was describing the various team members to me post interview, ‘Paul probably knows more than the rest of us put together’.
‘It was clear from the outset that he had both a passion and talent for conservation and on becoming a Partner helped to develop Hamilton Architects into one of Northern Ireland’s largest and most prestigious practices.’
Today, Hamilton Architects employs 40 staff, with three new Partners having joined the business, and a new office in Holborn in London which is rolling out an expanding programme of works in the city and the south-east.
