Literally everyone was a winner in the finals of the Hamilton Architects Bursary Award 2025 for Ulster University architecture students!
Partner Graeme Ogle was so impressed with the entries at presentation that he awarded all three finalist projects a share in the cash prize.
The students were given the opportunity to choose a building in Belfast and propose a new usage which would then elevate the local area. All three projects focused on a derelict Electric Light Station in Queen Street.
One entry designed a multi-functional market style intervention, another created a Maggie’s Cancer Care Centre, and the third came up with a music library and entertainment space.
Graeme said: “I was blown away by the imagination, flair and attention to detail presented by all three projects. In fact, all were so excellent, it proved impossible to choose one over another. Congratulations to all our winners!
“The HA Bursary Awards are going from strength to strength and we were delighted with the enthusiasm of this year’s cohort of students. It’s a great opportunity for them to platform their ideas, while letting us see just what they can do.”
The winners were Leticia Mackle and Shea Leckey, who presented as a team, and Dara Miller and Cormac Mullan, who presented individually.
This year, the practice ran two competitions, one for Architecture undergraduates, and one for ATM students, who created outstanding designs for a new, sustainable rural primary school.
