The completion of the Canteen & Reception fit-out at the Atlantic Technological University campus in Killybegs marks another significant milestone in the ongoing refurbishment projects designed and delivered for ATU by Hamilton Architects.
The scheme refreshes the aesthetic appeal of the Main Building with new finishes and furniture that embody simplicity, functionality and a warm aesthetic. Central to the design are ash timber screens which create a sense of privacy while maintaining an open, bright and inviting atmosphere.
Muted colour palettes, warm whites and subtle earth tones foster a calm and relaxed environment, encouraging social interaction and communal dining within a harmonious space. This thoughtful approach ensures the canteen serves not only as a place to eat, but also as a vibrant hub within the campus for staff and students alike. Practical upgrades include an energy-efficient roof replacement and improvements to the WC facilities.
Two other campus buildings—the Tourism Building and the Millennium Building – have also undergone substantial renovations. Works to the Tourism Building include critical updates to fire performance standards, a conversion of classrooms into electrical workshops, and refreshed interior finishes, ensuring the facilities meet current building regulations.
The upgrades will serve the needs of students and faculty for years to come and reflect ATU’s commitment to providing a modern and functional learning environment for students.
