Jill Alexander, a Hamilton Architects’ architectural technologist, is blazing a trail for other women in her field.

She has just become a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) and is one of only two women on the Northern Ireland Regional Committee Panel.

Jill joined Hamilton Architects five years ago and has a solid background in the healthcare sector as well as three years’ experience working with Specsavers. As the main Client advisor, Designer and Project Manager she oversees the relocation, extension and refurbishment of existing stores and the rollout of all new Optical Superstores on the island of Ireland.

“Architectural technology is a creative design discipline rooted in science and engineering,” Jill explained. “They are problem-solvers, making the design work to its fullest potential all the way through from the early concept to final certification.

“Traditionally, the profession has mainly attracted male practitioners, but there are more and more young women entering this sector and there is no reason why more of them cannot become chartered technologists.

“CIAT is a forward-thinking and inclusive global organisation which promotes the profession, qualifies members and is a fantastic forum for networking and learning from more experienced practitioners.” Jill is looking forward to promoting the organisation to women and representing Northern Ireland at the CIAT AGM in Glasgow in November, along with global President Elect Eddie Weir, another Northern Ireland native.
