Hamilton-designed DAERA Wins CEF ‘Gold’

DAERA Headquarters
DAERA Headquarters at Ballykelly, Co Londonderry, has won the commercial category of the CEF Construction Excellence Awards 2018 for JH Turkington & Sons.

The new £12m signature project, designed by Mark Haslett, Partner, and the team at Hamilton Architects, makes a little bit of history as the most significant relocation of a government department to rural Northern Ireland.

“We are delighted that the excellence of this state-of-the-art building has been recognised by the judges,” said Mark. “Congratulations to Turkington and everyone who has been involved in this stand-out project.”

Eventually, the move will mean the reassignment of around 500 civil service jobs to the 5,172m2, three-storey facility which accommodates 470 work stations and an inbuilt infrastructure allowing for future expansion.

The result is a state-of-the-art design which delivers dynamic interiors incorporating communal, outward-looking spaces that serve as circulation as well as breakout areas.

In a flexible arrangement which neither disrupts nor compromises the efficiency of the open plan offices, these spaces are also available for local community use.
