A brand new campus for South West College, designed by Hamilton Architects, is drawing closer with the appointment of Tracey Brothers as the main contractor.
The new Campus, situated at the former Erne Hospital site in Enniskillen, will house 8,000sqm of state of the art educational and community facilities costing more than £29m.
Mark Haslett, Hamilton Partner and leading designer for the new facility said: “This is great news - we are delighted to be working with Tracey Brothers on this prestigious project.
“We aim to provide world class facilities in a landmark building, setting a new benchmark for educational buildings in Northern Ireland. This will be the largest and most environmentally friendly building of its type.”
The new campus will see the delivery of the first educational building worldwide to achieve the highest international standard in environmental construction – PassivHaus Premium, ranking it alongside prestigious buildings such as the Apple Campus 2 in terms of sustainable innovation and design.
Construction is due to begin in March with completion in January 2020. The project will provide employment for over 200 people, including a number of apprenticeship opportunities, representing a major economic boost for the South West region.
Beverley Harrison, Director of Further Education, Department for the Economy, said: “This new campus demonstrates the Department’s continuing commitment to further education and to delivering the skills needed to grow the local economy.
“As well as the immediate boost to the local construction sector, the new building will showcase the potential role which further education can play in supporting and developing the local economy and marketing Northern Ireland on a world stage”.
